Court Showdown In The Mike Leach Fight

A West Texas judge will make key rulings Thursday in the battle to unearth secrets being hidden by Texas Tech University over their firing ten years ago of football coach Mike Leach.

Dolcefino Consulting has been battling Tech to get to the hidden public records for two years and Tech is now trying to block a subpoena to put Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton under oath. The Texas Attorney General is the lawyer for Texas Tech and his office also rules on whether the university is legally withholding documents in the Leach scandal or overcharging Dolcefino Consulting on requests for public information.

“This legal fight has exposed the sheer absurdity of Texas Public records laws,” says Wayne Dolcefino, President of Dolcefino Consulting. “Tech plays hide and seek with public records and we are supposed to complain to the Texas Attorney General, who is their lawyer, ridiculous.”

Judge Board has set three hours for arguments Thursday in the 181st District Court in Canyon, Texas. Board was chosen as the judge in this case after we complained judges in Lubbock shouldn’t hear the fight. We have already proven Texas Tech failed to complete the investigation they promised when Mike Leach was fired and has destroyed some of the records since then.

“The bottom line is that it’s time to get people under oath in this case,” says Dolcefino. “This campaign of secrecy must end. Texas taxpayers, donors, parents and students deserve the truth.”

Coach Leach has long argued Texas Tech owes him $2.5 million for violating terms of his contract.

The hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2019 in the 181st Judicial District Court of Randall County located at 2309 Russell Long Boulevard, Canyon, Texas 79015.

Wayne Dolcefino, the President of Dolcefino Consulting, and Dallas lawyers Michael Hurst and Julie Pettit will be available after the hearing for members of the media.
