Mayor Turner’s Legal Client Up For Big Metro Contract

Mayor Sylvester Turner is playing another game of hide and seek, this time trying to keep his city hall communications with a former legal client secret.
Paul Cannings Jr. is bidding for a lucrative Metro contract at the Medical Center through his company Paul Alexander Company. A Dolcefino Consulting investigation discovered Sylvester Turner was Cannings’ lawyer during a 2013 criminal case.
That’s when the money started flowing.
Since Turner was elected Mayor, Cannings’ company RPH Consulting Group has been paid nearly $1.8 million. The Cannings family and his company have given more than $20,000 in campaign contributions.
The potential Metro contract is the biggest prize. Two companies are bidding for the right to improve and build on top of the Metro medical center bus facility. It’s a deal that could be a windfall for taxpayers, yet Metro is hiding the proposals and all communications with Paul Cannings.
“It seems funny that Metro wants voters to give them billions of more dollars in November but wants to keep secret a project that could be a big windfall for Metro taxpayers,” says Wayne Dolcefino, President of Dolcefino Consulting. “We think the public has a right to know who is offering the most money for taxpayers and who else is part of this bidding war because taxpayers own the property, not some bureaucrats.”
People don’t usually keep secrets unless there is something to hide,” says Dolcefino. “The Mayor shouldn’t have a thing to do with who Metro does business with, but I guess we know this is the Turner administration.”
