Special Prosecutor Will Investigate Texas Tech

Lubbock County District Attorney Sunshine Stanek has asked that a special prosecutor be appointed to investigate current and former members of the Texas Tech University Board of Regents.
The criminal probe is the latest in the fallout from Dolcefino Consulting’s investigation into the firing of former Texas Tech Head Football Coach Mike Leach.
In January the Houston-based investigative media consulting firm, Dolcefino Consulting, filed a criminal complaint alleging seven current and former members of the Board of Regents had illegally withheld public records.
Stanek initially refused to investigate, citing a potential conflict of interest. The Lubbock District Attorney is a graduate of the Texas Tech University School of Law. Stanek told Dolcefino Consulting to send the complaint to the Texas Attorney General.
On Monday, the Office of the Attorney General told Stanek she must request the appointment of a special prosecutor under state law, and Stanek has now agreed.
“We have proof that members of the Board of Regents illegally withheld phone records. In fact, some of the Regents have simply ignored our requests for records,” says Wayne Dolcefino, President of Dolcefino Consulting. “That is a crime and we want the Regents who broke the law prosecuted.”
Dolcefino Consulting discovered the illegalities after the state accidentally released thousands of pages of records that Texas Tech was trying to hide from the public. Those documents proved Tech lied to donors and fans about the Leach investigation.
Tech has tried to systematically hide the truth for two and a half years. They have tried to charge Dolcefino Consulting more than $460,000 to look at public records. The University is hiding records detailing sexual assaults on campus, personnel files, and the scandal laden Raider Park parking project next to Jones AT&T Stadium.
Since TTU fired Coach Mike Leach, the university has lost nearly $2.2 million on the parking project. In 2019 alone, the university lost $181,000 on the parking project.
Dolcefino Consulting has asked Stanek to include asking for an investigation of Senior Associate General Counsel Ronny Wall in her request for a special prosecutor. In February of 2019 a criminal complaint was filed against the Tech lawyer for possible destruction of public records.
“Key records in the Leach case are now missing and this coverup must end,” says Dolcefino. Wall is scheduled to be deposed in April – providing the first sworn testimony by a Texas Tech official in the records fight.
“The appointment of a special prosecutor and the beginning of a criminal investigation is a step in the right direction,” says Dolcefino. “I have said since the beginning of this investigation that we will expose the truth, and end the cover up, and that’s exactly what we are doing.”
