Harris County Sheriff Hit With Complaint For Botched Raid

“I hate to say it. You know maybe the Sheriff’s office has lost touch with the citizens of Harris County.”
A formal internal affairs complaint has now been filed in the wake of that raid gone wrong in Northwest Harris County. Harris County Sheriff’s deputies knocked down the door of the wrong house trying to serve an arrest warrant.
That quote comes from the homeowner whose family was scared to death, a retired Houston police officer Louis Rodriguez.
“This could have turned into a tragedy,” Rodriguez said. “My first fear was for my family. You know, I’m scared for my family.”
Three weeks after the botched raid, which was captured on cell phone and made national news, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez hasn’t called to apologize and has refused to explain what he’s doing to make sure this kind of mistake doesn’t happen again. Deputies used a battering ram to smash the Rodriguez family front door.
Rodriguez called out Sheriff Ed Gonzalez in an interview with Dolcefino Consulting.
“I would have really liked to have heard from him,” Rodriguez said. “It wasn’t important enough, I guess. It would have been nice if the Sheriff would have come out here.”
“In the wake of the national debate over the Breonna Taylor death in a warrant raid it is critical the Sheriff face the cameras, tell us what went wrong and how we are fixing it,” said Wayne Dolcefino, President of Dolcefino Consulting. “An investigation was promised by the Sheriff’s PR guys, but where is the Sheriff? His silence is the kind of thing that only increases public concern at a time law enforcement must explain what happened.”
Deputies were looking for an African American suspect and Rodriguez was upset at the language used to his family once it was pretty clear deputies had gone to the wrong house.
“I ain’t going to let it go, I ain’t going to let it go,” Rodriguez told us.
We asked Sheriff Gonzalez for an interview to explain what’s being done to investigate the botched raid and he refused to do it.
