The Houston Chronicle has endorsed Richard “Rick” Gonzales in the race for Constable of Precinct 6.

“It is time to make a full break and elect someone new,” the paper writes. The Chronicle says Gonzales “has the law enforcement credentials to give this constable’s office a much-needed fresh start.”

Gonzales’ opponent is Sylvia Trevino, the wife of former Precinct 6 Constable Victor Trevino. Trevino betrayed the 150,000 residents of Precinct 6 when he used charity money for gambling junkets.

We now know Sylvia Trevino gambled thousands of dollars on those same trips.

The Chronicle says Sylvia Trevino is “deeply out of touch with the challenges facing law enforcement agencies in Houston.”

When asked about Houston’s Kush epidemic, Sylvia Trevino “demonstrated a shocking ignorance” by asking “Is it sniffing glue?”

“How is Sylvia Trevino going to protect our children if she doesn’t even know what the drugs plaguing our communities are,” says Gonzales.

Richard “Rick” Gonzales spent his Houston Police Department career patrolling Houston’s East End. He was born and raised in Denver Harbor, and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. He knows the community. You know him.

Harris County voters shouldn’t gamble with their safety by electing another Trevino.
