New Criminal Complaint Against Mayor Turner

In the wake of the Houston Airport System intern scandal, Mayor Sylvester Turner is hiding his phone records again. Dolcefino Consulting has filed a formal criminal complaint with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
“Sylvester Turner is a serial abuser of the public right to know and has engaged in a systematic pattern of withholding public records during his entire term in office,” says Wayne Dolcefino, President of Dolcefino Consulting.
This latest complaint follows ongoing investigations into the airport intern that Turner wanted hired for a city job. Marvin Agumagu was paid $95,000 per year. At least one mayoral candidate has called for an investigation.
Cell phone records obtained by Dolcefino Consulting last year show just one late night text message between the two at 10:59 pm. Turner heavily redacts his phone records and we have evidence the records were improperly redacted.
The request – originally filed in July – would reveal any additional phone calls between Turner and Agumagu during the time he was tapped for the high-priced internship.
The Mayor rarely conducts city business on the phone taxpayers provided for him. In fact, in August, there was only one phone call made from Turner’s city cell phone. Texas law makes any government related phone calls made on a personal device public information.
“This Mayor has used a law firm e- mail address and a personal phone to conduct his city business, and we already have filed criminal complaints about those issues in the past. Unfortunately, the Harris County District Attorney simply chooses to refuse to investigate the Mayor’s conduct,” states Dolcefino.
The handling of our last criminal complaint is a case in point. In January, Dolcefino Consulting filed a complaint. The District Attorney claimed a conflict and in March, County Criminal Court at Law No. 16 Judge Darrell Jordan appointed Houston attorney Dejean Cleggett. Cleggett didn’t even pick up the file from the District Attorney’s Office for two months, and since picking it up he hasn’t even bothered to contact the Mayor’s Office.
“The District Attorney’s Public Integrity Unit has become a joke, and while our complaints may go into a blackhole we will continue to do our job and file the necessary complaints,” says Dolcefino.
