Afraid to swear?

Former Mayor Annise Parker, Councilman David Martin, Houston’s Development Czar Andy Icken, Houston Airport Boss Mario Diaz and his long-time top Lieutenant Justina Mann all have something in common.

They all don’t want to swear under oath.

In December, the outgoing City Controller Ronald Green asked those five City of Houston officials to sign a sworn affidavit that FIVE lucrative city airport contracts were all done on the up and up.

The deals are part of a multibillion-dollar expansion at the two Houston airports.

Green wasn’t going to put his John Hancock on the deal, even though the Mayor clearly wanted the lucrative airport deals pushed through just before she hit the exit door at Houston City Hall.

Word is the new City Controller apparently doesn’t want to either.

In my experience, government does some of its most entertaining deals in the final hours of an administration…just saying.

In documents obtained by Dolcefino Consulting, Green asked Parker and Diaz about the perceived political hanky-panky on the deal. Maybe it was just one of those big coincidences that the insurance contract was being awarded to an insurance company where Councilman Dave Martin worked, and the affirmative action part of the deal was going to State Rep. Boris Miles, who must be one heck of an insurance guy because government agencies all around town seem to like to use him.

I know you thought affirmative action was supposed to be for some disadvantaged company just looking for a break, but this is Houston!

It’s now February, and Dolcefino Consulting has learned none of those affidavits have been signed. Not one of them. In case you want to see what they say, take a look (see attachment).
